What is the nearest airport?
The nearest airport is Aswan International Airport, which is an hour’s flight from Cairo. We will arrange a private taxi to collect you from the airport for an additional £10 per person. The taxi will bring you via car and boat to the island. We will be in touch closer to the date to confirm your flight details and coordinate your pickup.
What do I need to bring?
All bedding, camping equipment, and bed sheets will be provided. Closer to the event, you will receive a welcome pack with detailed information about what to bring and how to prepare.
What should I wear?
We recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing that allows for movement, ceremony, and relaxation. Bring layers as temperatures can fluctuate. For excursions or ceremonies, light, breathable fabrics that cover your shoulders and knees are advisable out of respect for local customs. A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are also essential.
What season is it?
The event takes place in March, which is the beginning of spring in Egypt. Temperatures in Aswan are typically mild to warm during the day (around 25-30°C) and cooler at night (around 12-16°C). We suggest packing both light daytime wear and warmer clothes for the evenings.
Do I need a visa to travel to Egypt?
Yes, most travelers require a tourist visa to enter Egypt. You can obtain a visa on arrival at Cairo or Aswan airport for around $25 USD, or you may apply online in advance for an eVisa through Egypt’s official government website.
Will food and water be provided?
Yes, three meals a day will be provided, with options for various dietary needs (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, etc.). We will ensure there is access to clean, filtered water throughout the retreat. Please let us know in advance of any specific allergies or dietary restrictions.
How will I get to the island?
Once you arrive at Aswan Airport, our taxi service will take you to a nearby dock where a private boat will bring you to the island. This journey will be coordinated and arranged to ensure smooth arrival for all participants.
Is there internet access on the island?
There will be limited or no internet access on the island, allowing for deeper immersion in the experience. We suggest letting loved ones know in advance and arranging time to check in with them before and after the retreat.
What currency should I bring?
The local currency in Egypt is the Egyptian Pound (EGP). While some places accept major credit cards or USD/EUR, we recommend having cash for small purchases and tips. Currency exchange services are available at major airports.
Is the water safe to drink?
We do not recommend drinking tap water in Egypt. We will provide clean, filtered water for all participants during your stay.
Are there any cultural customs I should be aware of?
Yes, Egypt is a country rich in tradition and history. Out of respect for local customs, we ask that participants dress modestly when visiting nearby areas, particularly when entering temples or local villages. Covering your shoulders and knees is often appreciated.
Is travel insurance required?
While travel insurance is not mandatory, we strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance that covers health, cancellations, and emergencies, particularly since we will be in a remote location.
Do I need vaccinations?
Please consult your doctor regarding recommended vaccinations for travel to Egypt. Common recommendations include vaccinations for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, and Tetanus. Make sure your routine vaccinations are up to date.
